Oh Canada… you’re so lovely.
It was our first family ski trip for the season and we decided to try something new, Whistler Canada. We actually picked a perfect weekend for this Whistler wonderland, the locals told us it was some of the best snow conditions they’ve had in years. It was a quick trip and so worth it.
Welcome to Whistler - Blackcomb / North America’s largest resort and The Westin. “If you can’t find your favorite terrain here, you can’t find it anywhere.” from the editors of Ski Magazine. They make it so easy to rent and return your equipment. Can-Ski Sports is located on the 1st floor of the hotel. Check in - get fitted and walk right out to the gondola that takes you to the top of the mountain in 25 minutes.
We flew from LAX to Vancouver and drove for two hours to Whistler. We had snow for the last hour and we all agreed it was the most gorgeous snowflakes we’ve seen! Canada is equipped for snowy conditions so the drive was actually enjoyable and beautiful.
Most importantly; have the right gear! It was below zero, so bundle up, cuz baby it’s cold outside. This year I purchased after-ski UGGS all-weather boots and my feet were never cold. The overall dress on and off the mountain is casual.
If you’re someone who likes to be first on the mountain, take the gondola to the top for first runs and breakfast. Gondola leaves at 7:15 and after breakfast you’ll be on the slopes by 8:15.
Peak to Peak (not for the faint of heart) is a glass bottom gondola that takes you from Whistler to Blackcomb, where most of the locals ski. This gondola spans the length between the two mountains and the view is breathtaking…literally.
It’s a charming town, all of the hotels are in the middle of the village along with shopping, We found three really good restaurants and a casual wood-burning pizza joint (we ordered in and watched the Oscars with pizza from Caramba.) There are more that 100 dining and drinking options to choose from.
Don’t forget to change your money, Canadian dollars only.
Have you heard about TopTote? Created by Lindsay Albanese this accessory is a necessity when you’re traveling the globe or in your own city. I personally love to wear hats so when Lindsay sent me her new product for my upcoming travels I couldn’t wait to put it into action. It’s so simple and it’s a fabulous idea! I also think it would make a great gift for your fellow traveler.
If you love to ski and you’re in the mood for an adventure I think you’ll be surprised at the beauty and charm of Whistler. There are 200 trails to choose from and there’s something for everyone. Have a great ski trip if you’re headed to the mountains this season and wear your helmet!
